NEW SEASON : NEW SPORTS

HOW TO MANAGE AND PLAN TO BE READY TO CHANGE SPORTS AS THE SEASONS CHANGE

As we move into cooler months, many of us change up our daily sports. It is important to take a minute and think about how the change in sport will affect our bodies. Or maybe you keep up your same sport but now you are moving in completely different conditions.

For example: I find that I will get a cluster of patients who went from summer hiking to hiking with snowshoes and get injuries in their feet and lower legs from the snowshoes. Or trail or road running and then onto the treadmill which can cause repetitive overuse injuries.

Injury aside, you want to look at how the body will perform. If you ran/hiked all summer and now are going to do a sliding winter sport, then it is important to work on more power strength and balance. Sports do not always translate.

It does not have to be complicated. I want to share this idea so that you just think about how you are stressing the body as you change sports or an aspect of your sport. Maybe ease into the new season and let the body adapt. Volume management in this scenario goes a long way.
