GET BACK IN THE ‘GAME’ or YOUR ACTIVITY

Yes, getting ‘back’ to doing the things you love after time away is hard but it’s not as hard as you think. You may have had an injury, insane work schedules, cared for a loved one or just needed a break. Now as you start to wish you were out on the trails, picking up kids, getting a dream job or going to a favorite class; you are hesitant because you are not as strong or fit as you used to be.

I hear this often, as a practitioner and as a member of the community. I see patients who may have tried 1 or 2 times to get back into shape but it usually ends in getting injured or the old injury returns. And there is a strong mental block when it’s harder than it ‘used to be’ so it’s really easy to give up. Yes, everyone does this, at every level.

But the good news is that with a little direction, patience and consistency - anything is possible. It starts with finding weaknesses, dysfunction and areas that may be symptomatic and making a plan to fix those. And at the same time, start to build up a stronger and more resilient body that match your specific goals. Taking into consideration your previous activity history and the length of time you were in-active or doing less is very important for guiding the volume and return to fitness.

This can be done with a few short workouts a week, a new understanding of movement and posture that fits your lifestyle/needs and learning about how we are building you up to thrive.

But it does take time which will vary per person and consistency of work. The magic wand is usually just a bandaid although easier. The silver lining will be that you learn a lot and will be able to manage yourself going forward!
